PIMD Singles Tournaments Final Results
When/Where: October 11 at Rossmoor LBC and October 12 at Berkeley LBC
Format: 3 singles games to 16 pts. on Saturday; the top bowlers in each event will return on Sunday to play games to 18 pts. at Berkeley
Sunday the top finishing bowlers from Saturday gathered at Berkeley Lawn Bowling Club for a chance to win the PIMD Singles Championships. The Berkeley green was freshly rolled three times with the clubs new roller and the conditions were ideal for an excellent day of bowling.
On the women's side Rose Selby, from the Palo Alto Lawn Bowling Club, followed up on her excellent performance on Saturday with more brilliance on Sunday. She ended up winning all 6 of her games over the two days to win the championship. Janie Hillyer, from Berkeley, gave Rose a run for her money in the women's final game running out to a substantial lead, but Rose was able to prevail in the end. Janie was second. Joanne Ribeiro, from Rossmoor, was third and Angie Peet, from San Francisco, fourth. Pictured left to right, Joanne Rose, and Janie.
The men were split into two groups for Sunday. Daniel Gorelick (Berkeley) and Frankie Napoli (Rossmoor) went undefeated in group play and went on to face each other in the championship game. Frankie Napoli was devastating in this match and won in very impressive fashion. Like Rose, Frankie won all of his games over the weekend of play. Daniel was the runner up. Kevin Reynolds (San Francisco) finished third and Jim Corr (Berkeley) fourth. Pictured left to right Jim Corr, Kevin Reynolds, Frankie Napoli, and Daniel Gorelick.

PIMD
2025 Champion of Champions Tournaments
Saturday, November 22 at Berkeley LBC
We are excited to communicate our plans for this year's PIMD Champion of Champions Tournaments. This very last tournament of the season is a chance for all of the club singles champions across PIMD to compete for the title of Champion of Champions. The tournament will take place on Saturday, November 22 at Berkeley LBC, and maybe another second venue, if needed, depending on the number of entries.
This year we will have separate tournaments for men and women. In previous years we have run a combined men's / women's event and a very large proportion of the participants having been men. We are moving to the separate events in order to align our process with much of the rest of the world and provide a pathway for more participation by and recognition of our top women bowlers.
Ideally, and beginning next year, bowlers would qualify by winning their club singles tournaments. We are aware that not all clubs offer separate men's and women's singles tournaments and at this late stage of the season it would not be practical or possible for all clubs to do so. For this year only, clubs can present their CofC participants by these methods, in preferential order:
Club singles tournament winners.Highest placing woman in a mixed singles tournament won by a man, or vice versa, the highest finishing man in a mixed singles tournament by a woman.Club selection of their best player(s) to send.
Each club then can send one woman and one man to represent their clubs at the Champion of Champions Tournaments. Please send all entries to Calvin Darling at calvinldarling@gmail.com by November 10. Once we get a full set of entrants we will communicate the venue(s) and other logistics.
PIMD Shines at the PBA USA Qualifiers
Last weekend, eight PIMD bowlers participated in the PBA USA Qualifiers at the beautiful Cambria Lawn Bowling Club for a chance to represent the USA at upcoming World Bowls Tour events. Top players came from around the country and three UK players also made the trip to compete for spots in the Scottish International Open, the World Indoor Bowls Championship at Potters Resort in England, and the UK Open in the North London area.
The finals and semi-finals of all of the four qualifiers were dominated by PIMD bowlers. Jesse May was on extremely good form throughout the events. Jesse made the finals in all three of the events he played. On Friday, Jesse defeated Ian Cameron in the final to qualify for the Scottish International Open in Livingston Scotland next month. On Saturday, Calvin Darling defeated Loren Dion in the semis and Jesse May in the final to qualify in singles for the World Indoor Bowls Championship at Potters Resort in England this coming January. On Sunday, the team of Daniel Gorelick and Bill Brault (Southwest Division) defeated the Santa Cruz team of Jesse May and Rachel Marcuson to qualify for Potters in pairs. Daniel Gorelick remained in top form on Monday where he lost a very tight finals match vs. long-standing Team USA and Cambria member Loren Dion, who qualified for the UK Open in March 2026.
In addition to playing, PIMD's Scottie Marzonie expertly manages all PBA USA operations. He served as tournament director and managed everything to do with the event's live streaming, from the technical side on through to expert commentary. Thank you Scottie. You can see livestreams from most of these finals and semi-finals on Scottie's Facebook Page.
